On Monday a number of writers, poets, intellectuals, and men of culture gathered at Gul Ghondi Hill in northern Parwan province to celebrate the Arghawan festival.
Every spring, the cultural dignitaries celebrate with special zeal by writing poems and performing about the ancient festival.
The participants urged that Afghan tradition and historic events be safeguarded allowing nothing to outshine the ancient traditions and festivals.
“In Afghanistan we celebrate many festivals alongside our social values,” writer Shamsul Haq Aryanfar said. “We celebrate the Red Flower Festival, Gul-e-Anar Festival, Gul-e-Seb Festival and Arghan Festival.”
“In the past we celebrated many festivals in our country,” musician Abdul Jalil Sadidd said. “But in recent years holding festivals are a bit delicate because of negative factors that exist here such as the war; a cursed phenomena.”
Alongside the intellectuals and cultural dignitaries, the youth gathered to enjoy the festival and learn about the past.
“Our youths and residents in the area want the cultural dignitaries to contribute in the growth of our culture,” another resident Ali Agha said.
The festival provides a platform to the people in commemorating the good days of the past.
